Lotus of Impermanence

2024
Aluminum, acrylic mirror, fabric, kinetic and audio components with micro computer.
30’ × 30’ × 14’H

This soft sculpture artwork, inspired by the surface of water, is adorned with over 100,000 mosaic mirror pieces. Upon close inspection, it presents undulating waves, while from afar it resembles an unchanging and serene water surface, reflecting the ebb and flow of life, change and constancy as one. At the center of the piece sits a lotus flower that seems out of this world. As the lotus flower slowly rotates, it appears to undergo the unpredictable encounters and changes of life.

The upheaval of the COVID-19 pandemic, spanning three years, coupled with sudden departures and profound lifestyle changes, has made people deeply aware of the impermanence of
life. Although life is filled with uncertainty, the lotus flower blooming on the water's surface embodies beauty and hope, symbolizing transformation and rebirth. Through this artwork, it is hoped that viewers can accept the reality of impermanence and find inner peace and stability amidst the ever-changing world.

900 x 900 x 400H cm
